Yes, in theory both chemical peels and micro dermabrasion can help you diminish and even reduce darks spots and make your skin look brighter. Whether these procedures will work on you depends on your skin and your medical history. Most people I know who have tried microderma seem pretty satisfied with the results, but there are also a few who say that this procedure caused them breakouts and irritations. If you are uncertain, you can start with one of those at home microderma kits (Neutrogena, Susan Lucci, L'oreal, Dermanew) and see how your dark spots react to them: they are a lot cheaper than professional microderma and not as aggressive on your skin.
My advice is to also consult your physician, he should be able to tell you which procedure is best for your condition.
Hope this helps,
Joanna

I didn't try a chemical peel but had used a botanical peel treatment for my acne scars and it worked very well for me, within three weeks the scar marks had disappeared completely and I never experienced any skin reaction at all while using it. I had used Zenmed's Scar Treatment Kit. This is a unique type of peel treatment which removes scars and marks by gently peeling off the uppermost layer of the skin. During the peeling process, there is no skin reaction or irritation and nor is the skin shedding its top layer visible. It's also safe to use on any skin type as it's ingredients are mostly botanical extracts.

actually chemical peels and abrasion are very bad for your skin! you are actually taking layers of skin off of your face. there are some other methods that are much less expensive that work better! check out a web site called www.artistry.com there is a system that they have produced that works just as well as dermabrasion but is much less costly and is much safer for your skin. there is also another product called bright idea that is clinically proven to lighted and lessen dark spots! i have seen it first hand, my aunt used the stuff and by the next day you could already see the difference! it is amazing anyway if you want more information on purchasing this stuff it is privately held company so you have to register but you can visit www.vherr.qbueatyzone.com ! hope this helps good luck fining what is right for you!

Microderm abrasion is a simple, straight forward, non-invasive procedure that revitalizes dull skin, reduces large pores, erases fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, reduces mild pigment irregularities (hyperpigmentation), stretch marks and age spots. It is equally effective to other skin treatments and, most importantly, it allows you to get back to your daily routine immediately after treatment.
Microdermabrasion is a fairly new skin resurfacing treatment that uses special doctor-handled machines or specially-formulated cream kits for home use, in order to rejuvenate and restore natural glow to your skin. The micro dermabrasion procedure is simple and painless and is equally effective to other surgical options (like laser skin resurfacing, dermal abrasion) and chemical peels.
• By removing a very fine skin layer, micro derm abrasion stimulates collagen production, thus encouraging cellular renewal. Old skin is replaced by new healthy skin cells - this is known to help acne, enlarged pores and blackheads, age spots and sun-damaged skin and uneven skin tone (hyperpigmentation).

Both are good for removing pigmentation because they increase cell turnover. They work best when used in conjunction with Hydraquinone or yeast extract which break the pigment into smaller pieces.

Hydroquinone is much better than either for both, but it doesn't smooth the skin. Save your money by trying it, a good retin-A product and sun block.
