It really depends on whether you're thinking long term, or short term as a lot of the recently traded players are just rentals and in the long run will have very little impact on their team.

Short term, I'd like to Say Forsberg, but he still isn't entirely healthy and the more I see him play the more I think his ankle is absolutely destroyed now and he probably wont be back. So, short term I'm probably going to have to take Ryan Smyth, if he isn't locked up by the Isles in free agency(I doubt he will be). Smyth is a big time player, over 30 goals this season. He can really be the heart of a team and motivates team mates with his unwavering work ethic and his willingness to take an absolute beating to score a goal. The Isles are in the playoff hunt, and by adding a star like Smyth to plant in front of the net on the PP... I think they'll be able to make the push for the playoffs and may land even as about 6th seed.

Long term, I think Smyth could do wonders for the Isles if he re-signs... Though I don't think he will... So, I'll say Marty Biron. He can play some pretty solid hockey, and can be the cure to what ails a team that has been searching for steady goaltending for a good while now.

Ryan Smyth for the New York Islanders. He gives it his all every single shift, and will do anything to score and for the team to win games. Smyth will be the edge that the Islanders need to get into the playoffs out East. Bill Guerin and Keith Tkachuk, the two biggest names heading into the Deadline, have not done much so far for their teams, but they will also give their teams the push they need to get into the postseason. However, Ryan Smyth has already shown what kind of impact he's going to have on Long Island by having an assist in his first game and a goal in his second game with the Islanders. This guy is going to make New York a tough team to play against out East.

Definitely Ryan Smith, The Islanders now have the heart and soul and a player that has gone to game 7 and lost with a worse team than what he is playing on now. He makes everyone around him better simply because of the effort he puts in. The Islanders players seemed to be more excited about the trade than I have ever seen in interviews.

Add to the fact that Smith is already used to tipping in the big point shot of Andre Marc Bergeron when they played together in Edmonton... good things will happen for the Islanders.

I could go on about other players but I think that, the Smith deal has already made a hot Islanders team better and ready for the playoffs.

Georges Laraque for the Pens. Laraque is an extremely intimidating force on the ice, or even on the bench. People like Jason Blake who mess around with Crosby or Malkin will think twice when they look at Laraque glaring at them. Also, Laraque has more ability then most enforcers, and is a powerful presence in front of the net.
The second-biggest acquisition is probably Peter Forsberg for the Predators. He will fit in perfectly there. Other large moves are Ryan Smyth for the Isles and Bill Guerin for San Jose.

San Jose's acquisition of Craig Rivet.

Craig Rivet easily upgrades the defensive corp by providing the leadership and experience to go along with the experience of Hannan and McLaren and the talents of Erhoff and Carle. Rivet will fit in just nicely and complement the rest of the team helping SJ to a very successful playoff run!

The Sharks getting Guerin and Rivet. Guerin strenthens and toughens the second line, plus brings much needed experience to the NHL's youngest team. He is now their oldest and only player to win a cup. Rivet also brings toughness and experience, plus a little scoring from the blue line. He scored in his first gam against the Ducks.

Gary Roberts for the Penguins. I think that Roberts will have a huge impact on the Penguins. As a player that has been around he will compliment the team as well as help them grow.

Peter Forsberg, when he is healthy he is the best player in the WORLD.
He makes Kariya that much better because Kariya is a finisher and Peter is a setup-man except when you need a big goal then he is a scorer.

Also he makes an inexperience (as far as winning cups) Nashville team that is having a great regular season....a team with a man who has done it twice before.

I say Forsburg. When healthy he is one of the best in the league. Nashville has been at the top of the West all year, but Forsburg will make them even better. If Vokun get hot in the Playoffs they could be the team to beat.
