I need to replace the CPU fan on my Dell 4600c. The replacement part comes with the fan and heat sink attached by 2 screws(see link). Is it OK to replace just the fan, and leave the old heat sink in place? I'm worried about disturbing the heatsink/cpu bonding, and the possibility of messing up the attachment clips.

I have the same computer. The fan was replaced without the new heat sink. It works great too.

Dell warmth sink and fan isn't proprietory. they are relative to the processor used. in case you have a p4 processor, then any p4 fan will paintings fantastic offering that the fan has the specs required with the help of the processor. consequently, if the alternative of the cpu fan is warranted someone isn't constrained to a DELL fan. Any cpu fan that handle the specs of the cpu will do. and that's any fan will DO and not DUE.
