In 1980, an American called Dennis Hope now known as the Head Cheese claimed the Moon and all other planets and moons in the solar system. He has granted MoonEstates.com the exclusive rights to sell extraterrestrial land in the United Kingdom. For more details about the ownership of the Moon and other planets and satellites go to About Us or for the whole story go to Frequently Asked Questions.

Nobody owns the moon, nor can anyone claim it. Lots of Companies try to scam you by selling land claims on the moon. They're not worth the paper they're printed on. If you really want a pretty certificate saying you own a piece of the moon, save your 50 bucks, and send me 5 instead.

No you cannot claim the Moon or any part thereof. The Moon belongs to the British Empire since a British expedition landed on it and planted the Union Flag in c1890. God bless Queen Victoria...hurrah!

Nobody officially owns it, but I guess somebody thinks so because a few years ago you could buy an acre on the moon. I don't think that's terribly helpful seeing as how nobody can live there. I think the government was doing that. But then again, does it really surprise you that the government thinks they own the moon?

Easiest way mate....make a movie, that results in you inheriting the moon from the american government........They will pay you billions if they can't prove you are wrong lol.....Why does the flag move in that footage? And why are their two shadows.....???
Oh yeah about these "buying an acre" things...it's all about intellectual rights as no-one has actually claimed it..... a bit like in the gold rush days.....you had to apply for a claim in a particular part of a mountain....

As the moon is made of cheese the governor of Wisconsin - otherwise known as The Big Cheesehead- has a pretty good claim on it. You can always stake a claim at edam.com

The Yanks have laid claim based upon a supposed landing there some years back but I can state factually that the Mooneys from Kerry here in Ireland visited, laid claim and named the place in 1903. They even named the sea of tranquility after their uncle Sean who was quite tranquil having drank a gallon of poteen. Scared of heights he was. If you try to lay claim against the Yanks they will most likely brand you a threat to national security and invade your back garden. The Mooneys might be a better option, try giving them a call on 123 O' Leary.

You can't claim it. A few years ago, there was a site where you could buy parts of the moon! I doubt it's legal though! I dare say you could still 'Google' it and buy your own share. I doubt you'd be allowed the whole thing though! Anyway, it's not really made of cheese, so why do you want it?

agreed...there was an international teaty that agreed that no-one country can claim the moon and most of the major nations signed it....there are a few smaller nations that did not sign it and if they can put a person there they could hypothetically claim the moon.
