You can't always see depression in someone. When people are depressed they may not see any advantages to living, and they may not see the potential of their children without them, they may see live as horrible, and want to save them-self, and their children from it.
Fortunately most people who feel depressed, even if they want to die themselves, do not want to drag others down with them.
Obviously I do not know what the woman was thinking, but I have seen the despair in people who were depressed.

Maybe there is more to the story than one knows, perhaps her husband is having an affair which can make some people want to kill themselves, that is why being unfaithful is so wrong. One can imagine that someones life is better than what it really is, because it seems great on the surface. Also expectations are another reason why people get depressed, maybe she feels that she hasn't got all she wants in life. Other reasons that one can take ones own life is due to a chemical imbalance in the brain and you can have everything going for you, but you can not see it. People who suffer from bipolar can have extreme mood swings. There are some famous people like Churchill who had manic depression, they have a lot going for them, but when they are on a down you can not make them see how lucky they are.
I had a friend who drowned herself and her mother killed herself two weeks later and apparently her grandmother was institutionalised due to some sort of depression, so some mental illness can run in families.
I also know of a story similar to the one you are talking about. A lady whose relationship broke down got very depressed so she took her ex husband car put the children in it and killed herself and the children, the sister of this lady told me that she felt that her sister thought that she was taking the children with her away from all the bad, because she felt the world was a bad place to be and so she didn't want the children to be in the world.

Some people murder their children as a way to punish the other partner for something they've done....like having an affair for example & then go on to kill themselves & some murder their children because they feel so bad about life & don't want to leave their children alive without them being here as well, you need to realise that whatever "reason" she had she wasn't thinking right at all....Obviously she must have been going through hell to take such extreme actions.....I could never kill any of my children but then I'm not going through some awful depression either....my heart goes out to her.......it just goes to show, you can never tell the pain & torment some people are going through despite how things may look on the surface....
Try not to feel too angry with her for doing this....I understand it must be difficult....her poor husband is the one that's whole life has suddenly changed overnight, never to be the same again.....

It is sad that so many people feel that the only way out of whatever hole they are in is to kill themselves, but it goes farther. Many suicidal people also feel that no one acknowledges them, that the world doesn't realize that they are there. I should know. Often the reason you take someone with you is to get the attention of everyone. You think that no one will notice if you just kill yourself, so you kill someone else too. It doesn't make sense, but it is true. My condolences to whomever has to deal with such a horrible thing.

That's really bad. I believe that the pressures of being a new mother can drive them to do inexplicabe thingsto their children. She probably felt overwhelmed and after commiting such a heinius crime against her kids, could not bear with what she did and took her own life.
I think she should have talked to someone before these feelings became so powerful that the love she had for her children was not enough to silence the bad temptation.

Such a terrible thing to happen, my condolences to the family as well. She must have had some underlying mental illness/issues that pushed her over the edge. I hate to point the finger at mental illness, but it seems like the most logical and easily explained.

The only answer I can think of is she was Mentally deranged,
thought she was ending everything in her messed up existence.
It's all chronic behavior, she was mentally ill all along.People can
act like they are normal when they are disturbed. She could have suffered hormonal imbalance,or brain tumor. After birth and the baby was 5 months they get a disease from depression, like
Brook Shields had, they feel hopeless and need Medical attention,
They become overwhelmed.They snap.

People who commit suicide don't have any concept of the devastation they will impose on others.
They see what they are doing as being totally rational and for the best all round. In an ironic twist they think they are protecting the loved ones that they are taking with them.
Do feel for you and the family left behind. Terrible to have to cope with this.
Don't imagine you will every get any answers.

Oh! This is awful! I think the same thing when I hear of a murder-suicide. Why don't they just kill themselves and leave others out of it? These things never make sense and it is absolutely terrible that innocent people loose their lives over it.

This always really really gets to me when I read about it happening, it must be really affecting to have it so close to you. I bet you feel guilty don't you? Well don't, if someone has travelled so far over the edge that they kill their own children they couldn't be stopped. I'm really sorry you are going through this xxxx
