In a military conflict, the lives of civilians are more highly prized than the lives of soldiers. Politically, it is a major tragedy when civilians die (especially the ones from your own country, and even more especially when they're famous), but people easily accept the deaths of servicepeople.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the life of a soldier is any less valuable than the life of a reporter, not by any means. I'm just saying that the political mess of a soldier's death pales in comparison to the politcal mess (and media frenzy) of a reporter's attack.

Mr. Woodruff's medical was covered by ABC News as he was working when he was injured. I am very happy for all the people who care about him that he has recovered so well. The case of many of our wounded not getting excellent care. Today 2 servicemen spoke with legislators and said they had no problem with the medical care they received immediately after their injuries, unfortunately tho once they are stable they are sent to the VA which was already overwhelmed as it was. ABC News is a corporation, the military is funded by the federal government. My question is: why did our servicemen have to report these shortfalls instead of the physicians, support care and after care?

The only answer that pops into my mind is because he works for ABC. But its still wrong the way the soldiers are being treated. I think this goes back at least four decades.

It's who you know. He and his wife just happened to be friends with a really good surgeon and he was able to save Bob's life. Plus, I'm sure that the fact that Bob is rich and famous had a lot to do with it too.

He is more in the public eye! I think this has served to bring this problem into focus and now maybe something will be done about this deplorable situation!

Why anything works in our country - money and it isn't what you know, it's WHO you know.
At least he is doing a story about the treatment for brain trauma and it is making a difference.

Cynical answer is because he's famous and the other men and women shot in war are nothing but grunts who get paid to get shot at.
Sorry...I warned you it was cynical.
