Where have you been the last twenty four years - it`s always on TV (usually Sunday mornings BBC1 and definitely cable/satellite).
It`s very loosely based on the classic BBC drama Secret Army and is set in the fictional French (Secret Army was set in Belgium) town of Nouvion and starred Yorkshire actor Gorden Kaye as Rene Artois (a Belgian beer reference LOL) who ran the local cafe. The long-running series featured Rene`s adventures as he tried barely successfully to hide "ze British `airmen" from the German occupying troops ,locate a Knockwurst stuffed with a painting of The Fallen Madonna (wizz ze beeg boobees) by van Klomp and juggle his love affairs with his waitresses.
Several outstanding things are prevalent :- the Germans speak english (with a "german" accent") ,the French english (with a french asccent) and the Brits english (with an upperclass "I say chaps" english accent) however the undercover British agent Crabtree posing as a Gendarme speaks a garbled english :-
"I was pissing by your wondoo" etc.
Awesome fun and should have fractured the entente cordiale but the French for once see the funny side.

Classic British comedy. If you like shows like Vicor of Dibley, Faulty Towers, etc, you'll like it...if not, don't bother. Personally, I like the show...not one of my favorites, but good nonetheless
