I sit in the very back, but was wondering if that really was the safest place to be.

Surely sitting over the wings is a bad idea since that is where fuel is located??

statistically, the rear of the plane is safer. By a small margin.

Sit in the back of the plane. I have heard that is the safest place to stay in event of a emgerency situation.

Generally, doesn't matter. The only survivor from the Lexington, KY crash was the copilot.

But, that was the first commercial crash in the US since 11/01 (American Airlines in Queens). Absolutely the safest way to travel. Sit anywhere you want.

In the event of a crash, the safest place to be is to have your head between your legs kissing your *** good bye.

Seriously if the planes going down cancel your dinner plans.

I would think that the back of the plane would be the safest. It also depends on what type of plane that you are flying in too.

Depends on the type of crash, how the airplane impacted the ground, and if it hit something besides the ground. The rear may be slightly safer.
