First, lets take "typical" out of that question. There is nothing typical or routine about retail. Depending on the store, hours vary widely. Our store is open from 10am til 9pm. I might work 9-5, 9-6, 11-7, 1-9:30. If the store is only open until 5 or 6 pm, I suppose there would be more regularity. It's nice to get a day off during the week or get to go in to work around lunchtime while everyone else is in their 9-5 grind. But it sucks not getting weekends off.

Part time, there are typically two shifts: store open to between 3pm and 5pm, or 3pm to 5pm until store close. Full time is sometimes the same if the store is open very early and/or very late. But, full time salaried people, like managers, often work open to close. And you will have to work weekends. In general: prepare to be flexible.

It varies from store to store. So, you have to be flexible when you want to work in this environment and no weekends off. The manager wants you to either work day or night .
