Ok, so I was at the convenience store the other day, and aparently the "mega" Lotto in california is near 340 million... and I had to wait in line for several minutes while people were rushing to get their tickets... My question... how is it that when the lottery is at the beginning amount of 7 million, there are not as many people playing it .... but as soon as it grows to this insanely high number, there are people in the masses waiting to get their ticket, but why? If I were not willing to risk loosing a dollar for a payout of 7 million... at what point does the jackpot become big enough to risk the one dollar for a ticket.... I just don't get it... I obviously dont play the lottery but if I did, I think I would be just a pleased to win 7 million with my one dollar....as opposed to "waiting" to play until the jackpot reached the large numbers..... what do you think?: at what point is the reward great enough to risk you dollar?

In my place of work I sell lotto. When the jackpot gets high there is more traffic. The human logic is that the more the money the easier to win. That is wrong. The bigger the jackpot, the more players and therefore the less chances of winning. I don't play the things myself. I can't bring myself to waste my hard earned cash on a dream that will most probably never come true. It has been said you have a better chance of being hit by lightning then winning the jackpot of a lottery.

That boggles my mind as well. I would be pleased to win the smallest measly one million. Why pay all that out in taxes? Why have the world at your door begging for money? I play the lotto whenever the mood strikes me!

My husband and I buy powerball tickets and we do the same thing, we wait until the amount is outrageous, then we go buy a ticket.

I'm not sure why we do it, that's just what we do !!
