I was going to purchase a barbie doll to display in my room. Then I thought "How am I going to disply her?" Does anyone know where I could get a stand?
About how much do stands cost?
Are the stands discreet enough to where dolls still look OK when they're displayed in them?

Buy it on e-bay. There have thousands. Buy what appeals to you, not what you think will turn over some money. That way later if it doesn't sell you have something you like.

Get a stand from any craft store.

They also have plastic cases for display, that way the clothes don't get dusty.

Most collectors of Barbies want MIB ( mint in box) or NRFB ( never removed from box) pieces. The box itself is a piece of history, showing the artwork and advertising of the doll's heyday.
If it's a collectable piece not in a box, it should be stored in a box with acid-free paper somewhere away from light and not prone to extreme temperature or humidity changes.
If the piece is bought simply because you like it and not for investment purposes, you might want to get a glass case for it to keep dust and bugs away. Many craft stores ( e.g., Michael's, Hobby Lobby) carry standard metal or metaland wood doll stands that you slip the doll's waist in.

IF you are going to start collecting Barbies you need to leave them in the box. They are worth more in the orginal never opened box.
I have my collection on shelving in a room.
