write poppy ''straw'' instead of poppy ''stray'' in ypur question.
the answer is :
* poppy plant flowers and after sometime these flowers dry to form a shape of rounded fruits(fruit for addicts offcourse).cuts are given around these round balls and a white coloured excretion/juice like milk oozes and dries up as brownishblack scrappings.which are removed and called pure opium.
* the remaining ball/fruit is grinded to a rough powder called poppy husk.
* opium is also called ''afeem'',''kala maal'' and ''black gold''.
* poppy husk is also called ''post'',''bhukki'' and ''choora''.
* there are no straws of any kind but they are often grinded along fruit/balls to increase the quantity.
* afghanistan is the largest producer of opium in the world. In fact the feeble/non-existent economy and livelihood of most afghan farmers depends upon its production.
