We are having a party at the lake for my sons birthday party. We will probably have some fishing poles there if some of the kids want to fish. My son absolutley loves to fish. What are some other games or ideas for this party. Games, decorations ect., any ideas are welcome, thanks!

My son just turned 7, a fishing themed birthday party would be so easy to decorate for. First, if you live in an area with a Big Lots, or a similar type store, go and stock up on all the cheap lures, floats/bobs, etc... Use those for decorations and prizes. Also use old boat oars and life jackets as decorations. You can also get some fishing themed material at WalMart or Joann's for table cloths. You can have a fishing competition for one of the games (who catches the most, who catches the largest fish, etc...). If you want to do a crafty type project, the children can make fishing boat shaped refrigerator magnets, or oar shaped magnets. (You could also give a prize for the best decorated...) However, you will find at this age, the less structured events/games are the better you will be. As boys this age love to run around an just have a free for all.

Also, stay away from the pin the tail type of games, the boys are embarrassed by this type of game. They think that they are too old for that. However, if you have girls attending, they may enjoy that.

one thing I did in an HS environmental science class that would be great for this and its really easy to do......have two kids stand upstream from two or three other kids.....the kids upstream need to start lifting up rocks and kicking up the dirt.....the kids downstream have a bunch of fishing nets......do it for ten or fifteen minutes, then dump the contents of the nets......we had a couple of cray fish and some other neat creatures
