I'm going to enter an amutar short story contest, but I need to write a manuscripot to enter. What does a manuscript even look like?

"Manuscript" means "handwritten", but you can apply the word to any type of hard copy, as opposed to electronic files. It is no more abusing of the original meaning than applying the word "silverware" to plastic utensils used at fastfoods.

manuscript is a book, hand-written (i.e. not made on the modern printing machines). Many of the manuscripts were bibles or to record biblical stories. In the old times, the monks spent much of time creating beautiful art work including drawings, and handwritings. The Getty museum in LA has the biggest collection of it. You may want to check out its website to see some samples. They are beautiful art pieces.

A manuscript is a bundle of papers (the story of the book or short story) with a title page, usually unbound(not in book fromat).
