My hubby wants to weld something to his motorcycle frame(steel), what would be the best mig welder for this? Also, is there a welder that works well, and is not totally expensive? Thanks for your help.

Thanks to everyone who answered my question. Your answers were very helpful. Those of you who said he should take it to a shop to get done, maybe you should have read my question a little more carefully. I wasnt asking if he should take it to a shop. Thanks a bunch!

Since you don't seem to know what kind of welder to use, I take it that hubby is not a professional welder. For your own safety, take it to a pro. Depending on what you plan to weld on, TIG might be a better process to use. Besides, getting a pro to do it will cost you much less than buying a good quality MIG welder.

Wow Kari welding on a frame is always bad news as you heat and stress the frame. any wire welder would do. if this is a one time project go to a rental house and rent one for the day.

Ya know he should stock up on Duct tape and keep a couple of rolls handy just in case the frame folds at 50.....The tape is for him not the bike....

depends on what hes welding mig is alright for some small things but if its footpegs or bracing structural stuff tig is better just dont weld enough in the same area to warp frame . trick is to weld small areas as not to heat up and warp metal. also needs to unhook battery so as not to fry electronics on the bike. Tell him to find a friend who welds or have a frame shop or bike dealer do it

would not weld m/c due to warp issues. if you must, try a miller wire feed with gas shielding
