There is nothing joyful about stealing a car and maybe killing someone during a few hours of madness, so why are such individuals called "joy-riders"?

Where did the term originate?

Also, "goodbye".. there is never anything GOOD about saying bye to someone.. so why is it so called? .. and again, where did it originate?

Thugs enjoy stealing cars and driving fast. They get joy out of it.
Thus the term Joy riding...

Good bye is a derivitive of "God be with you." A common form of saying see you later in centuries past.....
