If your uterus and cervix arent ready, there isnt really anything that you can do to 'induce' labor. As a labor and delivery RN, as well as a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse, Ive seen several bad outcomes of someone trying to 'induce' labor. Yes, sometimes the nipple stimulation will work ( oxytocin, the drug that causes uterine contractions, is released) but you have to also take into consideration THERE IS A REASON WOMEN ARE SUPPOSE TO GO TO 40 WEEKS!. Sometimes the babies lungs are not mature, and Ive seen some pretty sad catastrophies because the patients have talked their OB into inducing them early. As for the whole castor oil thing, Ive seen women admitted to the hospital with such severe diarrhea they thought they would **** their brains out...and guess what, no baby!! ....My advice is to wait another week, or better yet, talk to your physician about inducing you. WIth this being your 4 baby, its likely that you wont go too much longer. Good luck!

I'm an obgyn nurse, and if that baby isn't ready to come out...don't force it! With you having 3 kids already, it'll happen on it's own. There's reasons that babies wait for a certain time to make their appearance.
As far as "home remedies" after 13 years of obgyn nursing, I have yet to prove any of them actually working...sex is always a good bed...it helps loosen the mucus plug and if you're softening it helps activate the cervix...but other than that...castor oil can just give you a bad case of the runs! LOL!
You've already made it 38 weeks...hang in there...you've come so far...another 2 weeks or less won't be so bad! Spend this time preparing everything, and getting ready for the new addition!
Good luck! You sound like an good and excited mommy!

I am 36 weeks pregnant and I feel your pain.. I also did the castor oil thing and nothing is worse then having diahrea with each contraction.. I am on my third pregnancy so I have also tried everything.. sex, no way , not quick enough and I really thing my husband did enough damamge already.. I am going to try nipple stimulation, I am not playing with them myself, but I plan to try and pump every 60 minutes for 15 minutes and see where that gets me... I have heard the primrose thing, either take the pill or put it up there, but again, they say that takes up to 3 weeks... so I would suggest pumping, walking, and if you can bear in castor oil... it sucks, but it does work! good luck, I send you labor vibes, but return, because I will need them soon.!

try some thai or indian spicy food.
or there is the good old caster oil (I think that is what it is called)
I've heard many women swear by sex and nipple stimulation.
i heard sex can help...its worth a try who knows if it works.
I heard breast pumping, orgasm and water are good ways to speed things up.. if they really work who knows
I've been doing my own research on this and everything I've found says that these things won't induce labor if you're not ready. but being that your cervix is already soft, maybe these things will help speed things along. You could try PMing Donna (Gramma2Courtney) - I think she has an induction recipe

LOL Three kids and you don't remember that you can't for sure induce labor???
My doctor swore by sex. It worked with one of my two kids.
With the second, according to my mother, I just willed him out. I walked around the mall about 50 times that day, stopping at Chick-Fil-A everytime I passed by for a refill on water. Had him the next day.
My sister tried the same tricks and was almost a month past-due.
Good luck. :-)

Doctors usually don't recommend inductions until after 40 weeks. I know how hard it is, but try to tough it out. There are lots of theories such as exercise, intercourse, and other methods to self induce labor, but they rarely ever work.

Yes, the last part of pregnancy is difficult. But that is not a reason to possibly put yourself and your baby in jeopardy by trying to self induce.
Try to relax, get some help from dh, family and friends. Look for time to take relaxing baths and sleep as much as you can. Also, do some walking to keep the circulation going.
I know how you are feeling. I had my 4th 6 months ago. Time has just flown by since he arrived!
Best to you!

That baby will come when he/she wants to...
I frigging walked and walked and walked and I rocked on the ball and had sex like a porn star and ate every hot chili pepper in the damn county and nothin......my labor was finally induced at 42 weeks...lol
So bottom line...baby will come ...when he wants to...or when the doctor has decided it's been long enough.
Good Luck Mama and congratulations!

Seems like you should know already that it is a waiting game when you are pregnant. Walk, have sex, get your doctor to give you an internal, I have heard them all. That little baby will come when he and you are ready. Take it easy and relax for now. You are going to have one more to take care of when they arrive, so savor the moment.
