I recently posted this question & really appreciate all answers rec'd, particularly from funeral directors. I think I need be a little more specific though. I received 2 portions of my partner's ashes. I have good reason to believe one is false. As I was only due one portion, the other came from his mother, too complicated to go into! But each portion is a completely different colour. Supposedly the same ashes? One (which I believe is not ashes) is a light sort of greyish brownish colour, the other (which I believe is correct) is a darker grey. They both smell different too. I just wish to know which to scatter... as I know I should only have one portion. Does anyone know if I can have the authenticity of ashes tested? I just wish to have my mind put at ease. Thank you all.

grey. IT SO DOESN'T MATTER. It is the soul that matters. Where is his/her soul? Your mind will truly be at ease when you know where you will spend eternity. THAT matters.

Oh you poor thing!
Ashes are a light to darkish grey in colour. The texture is gritty and they are also quite heavy. An average persons ashes are about the size of a large sweet jar.I am sure there are people who can test these ashes for you,to see if they are the real thing or not,but where i don't know.
You sound as though you have been through a lot lately.I hope things get better for you soon.Hugs Dolly

my son replace into cremated 8 years in the past and his ashes are very dark gray, almost black. My oldest daughter in simple terms died and she or he replace into cremated and her ashes are almost white, an rather mild gray. Neither one replace into cremated in a field coffin, yet a cardboard coffin. I particularly have scattered some ashes and function saved some. I particularly have a small vial with a tumbler stopper and function positioned a number of my son's darker ashes interior the backside area and then the lighter daughter's ashes on real. Saving some room for mine later.

I don't believe you get all the ashes when someones being cremated you must remember the coffin also get burnt along with clothing etc
you will be presented with a pot that is filled with some of the ashes the best thing to do is mix them both together then you can be sure to scatter the right ones

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. What a hard thing to go through. I have always believed cremated ashes to be a lighter gray color...but if the lighter gray bunch is the one you believe is the false group, then I'm not sure. I would try out authenticating them if you can.

Who did the other bunch come from?

Why not just spread both?
