Have just bought my daughter a laptop on which she did the initial set-ups, inc log in name and password, she was then asked to re-start her computer and once she did it will not accept log in/p-word. I cannot log in by leaving these blank (as works on some computers). As she is has only had it for two hours this is a little bit frustrating! It is an ADVENT 7105PA. Thank you

Windows Xp - Not a major problem

You are going to enter your system into safe mode.
Rating: Moderate User level

Restart the laptop
keep pressing F8 (Ignore beeping)
A new sub boot up menu will appear

Move the Highlighted section (using up and down arrows) to Start windows in safe mode.

Your system will continue to start up.

When you reach the log in menu click the admin account - not the normal user

You will be presented with Windows in Safe mode (a black screen)

Read the pop up that will appear and click the needed button. Normally "yes"

Then go to Control panel
users
Select your daughters account
Select password options / remove password

Follow ithe instruction to remove the password

key do not make a new password yet.

Restart the system as normal

Click your daughters account and the password should be removed, hence log in. No go back to users in control panel and set a new password.

I hope this makes sense for you.

Log in using safe mode, log in as administrator, hitting F8 while booting.
If the password didnt work then you wont be able to change it.
You will need to click start, control panel, click user accounts, then create a new account. Reboot and log on as the new account holder, you can erase the other account that the password didnt work on....

Sorry bout your problems, hope this works for ya!
