I just had an interview, a question was raised that I need to get your feedback in, if I have two organizations, one is successful and the other is not, and I have two managers, one is successful and the other one is not, in which organization shall I place the successful manager? And why?

I would make the successful manager a general manager over both organizations , Place the unsuccessful Manager in the successful organization with the understanding that he is there to manage what is already established , Then with input from my new GM would hire a new manager for the unsuccessful organization. Then challenge my GM to make and keep both organization successful....Unless I was using the unsuccessful organization to offset the profits of the successful organization for tax purposes . There are really a 100 different answers to this question, and really need a more vivid picture of what is expected of both organization in order to answer this question correct.

To be or not to be? The question about which manager goes where, is full of ideology and "Good Business Practice". But doesn't have a logical answer.

There is nothing in business that someone with good project management skills cannot work out. The organization that is not successful may have other factors but, would not be unsuccessful if those that are looking at bottom line had their eye on the ball. So, in all fairness, you could blame the owner/CEO. In any event, you would need to look at the whole landscape before a logical answer can be had.

Know this; if you have a manager in a position that is working, you can use that person but don't move them. Why mess up something that works. Better to find out what the successful manager does to make his operation work. On the flip side; managers don't grow on trees. don't discount the manager that is not being successful. There may be other influences that are affecting the bottom line.

Tracking business is difficult but necessary. The organization that does not know why it's failing needs help. They probably think they can handle it but, that's just another reason why they need help.

Answer: Find out why the "not successful" manager is failing. Try to recover and lead him/her to success. Get other opinions, like the successful manager.

In the unsuccessful organization. A good manager can make it successful.
