I was then divorced in the state of WA about 2 years later. Bottom line, after we fill out the marriage license application in CA, is there a check that the County Clerk does on a database?

Thanks.

Obviously the person you are marrying has no idea you were married before. If they did you would not be so worried about the clerk finding out. Not a good way to start out a marriage. You need to fess up now or it could bite you later!!

Probably not but what's to worry if you were divorced in Washington. Things are real quick at the license office in Clark County these days and I doubt that you will have any problem. Out of an abundance of caution you may wish to take your decree of dissolution with you and show it if they ask.

when I got remarried I had to bring a copy of my divorce decree to prove i was divorced before re applying for a marriage license. It could vary from state to state. If my memory serves me correctly on the application it ask have you ever been married and it also ask you the date of divorce.since they ask you on the license and your signing a legal document with penalty for falsifying the document. I would say no, it is your responsibility to make sure that you are divorced before proceeding.

Honey, on that questionaire, where they tell you to check and list where and who you've been previously married to, you really need to be honest. These things are all logged. If it catches up to you, you can be denied a marriage license in that county.

If it helps, in all honesty, most things over ten years are purged from the system...but notice I said most. If it were me, I wouldn't take the chance. If your soon to be spouse has no idea...it's time to come clean. You can't enter a relationship with a secret such as this....at one point in time, its bound to come back and haunt you.

Maybe they will find out because you and your others are in the computor system. Call a lawyer or someone from a phonebooth.

hmmm..Tough one. If you got divorce then they marriage linsence is void. So it should come up.
And if it did why are you worried about it? Have you not told your new hubby about the old one?

Sure is. Getting a marriage certificate is like getting DUI. It doesn't matter where, or how, they talk.

Probably not, but since you were divorced, there should be no problems.

dont think they bother, when you sign you attest that you are eligible for marriage and you perjure yourself if you arent.
