It's a strand of DNA that is from the genome, or chromosome of the organism.

This is contrasted with a cDNA strand or cloned DNA strand, or RNA or an amplified DNA from PCR.

Genome of an organism is its whole hereditary information and is encoded in the DNA (or, for some viruses, RNA). This includes both the genes(a locatable region of genomic sequence, corresponding to a unit of inheritance) and the non-coding sequences of the DNA.In living organisms, DNA does not usually exist as a single molecule, but instead as a tightly-associated pair of molecules. These two long strands entwine like vines, in the shape of a double helix. The nucleotide repeats contain both the backbone of the molecule, which holds the chain together, and a base, which interacts with the other DNA strand in the helix. So genomic strand is nothing but DNA strand.
