It is Floppy Disk Drive(FDD) and it has one pin missing. It mounts the ribbon cable that goes to the 3.5 inch drive which lots of computers don't come with. The ribbon cable has red on one side-This denotes pin #1. The ribbon cable also has slit in it and some twisted wires(in the ribbon) This denotes the end closest to the twist as the end that goes in the drive and NOT in the Motherboard

It's a rectangular area of pins, you connect a ribbon cable between it and a floppy disk drive.

Its a floppy disk drive connector, it looks very similar to an IDE socket, but smaller, its used to connect your floppy drive, however, nowadays, who uses floppys?
