Because, as we understand it, mankind and apes split off from a common ancestor (that's not to say that we evolved from apes, just that apes and people share a common ancestral link, we'll call it a "proto-ape-man"). And that proto-ape-man and other primates, even farther back in the past, share another common ancestor (proto-proto-ape-monkey-man?). So we can look at genetic traits shared among all three of us - man, monkeys, and apes, and see how common those traits are, how similar they are, and other comparisons to see how similar we are as a whole, and what our ancestors may have looked like or lived like.

Because the evolution for humans started with non-human primates. It's not hard to understand.

Because for some reason the idiots out there haven't figured out that there isn't a missing link and that humans didn't evolve from monkeys. Humans have always been humans, the only evolving we have ever done as a species has been in small measures such as skin tone and stature. The missing link shows up and I will believe that Darwin was right but until then I will go with the text that has been on this earth for a long time (Bible) which tells me otherwise. And on Darwin's deathbed he even said that it was just a theory. Darwin didn't even say that his theory was a fact. It is a shame that kids are taught Darwinism without being given the fact that he wasn't even sure about it.

Because we all are evolving. Scientists can tell how far back certain primates diverged from each other and so, tell us how we evolved into who we are today.
