If you call long distance from your cell phone, you most likely won't have to pay long distance charges, but that varies by plan.

If you call long distance on a landline you will be charged long distance fees.

Charges will be based on the originating and terminating phone number. In other words, if you dial a number that is another state from the number you are dialing from, then that call counts as interstate long distance.

Example: You have an Ohio number and your friend has a New York number. You are vacationing together with your friend in Florida, and you call her phone. It doesn't matter that you are near each other. That counts as a long distance call from Ohio to New York.

How much you pay for that call is another question. Many calling plans in the U.S. today include free long distance. This means you'll still pay for the air time, but won't pay extra because it's a long distance call.

Are you calling from a land line? Depends on the area code of the cell phone. Are you calling from another cell phone? You might incur roaming charges.

it depends if the person you are calling is from your area..if they are from out of state then yes its long distance..but if they live in your same general area then most likely its not..even if they were travel 1000's of miles away it would still be a local call for you
