I have gone with AOL and to be honest although different, I have had nothing but trouble, viruses, adware, even though i have good security, do I have to endure another 8 months of this before i can change internet providers, or is there a get out clause? My computer is always crashing and on a go slow. I have the best security etc. Help please, also my comp is only 18 months old

Unfortunately a contract is a contract, if you could prove AOL directly infected your computer you might have a case but you'd never prove it.

Your best bet is to explain the situation to them and se if they will let you out but they are under no legal obligation to end your service early.

The other problem is that many viruses are probably coming through the programs you use rather than the service provider i recommend you go to a computer repair shop and get them to clean your hard drive and start over, its the best way, opnce viruses are in its practically impossible to clean the system easily. You'd need to rewrite the whole hard drive though and lose all the info and start again so get off any info you want onto DVD's and get your system completely restored.

Trust me, i've lost many computers through viruses.

Legally a verbal contract is binding, but unless it can be proved it is hard to uphold in law. I would have expected AOL to get prove of your commitment.
I am surprised you have had so much trouble with AOL, their adverts always suggest their service is secure.
You say you have the best security, that should be a good firewall, a good virus protector, a good adware remover, and a good email filter. I would have thought with these, you would be protected whoever you ISP was. The Yahoo anti-spy can remove adware.
A good security system should be able to detect, and remove most viruses, and the company should be able to help you remove the others. A good security system won't let you into a site with viruses

A verbal contract is just as good as a written one. Sorry. Cell phones are rip off in this area also.
