tanning clears up the skin, for a while, by drying out your skin, but when your skin replenishes the natural oil, you break out twice as bad, so when tanning use a mild SPF, on the face. and clean your face daily to keep the natural oil balance right.

Tanning is not recommended.
Sunlight, however does provide your skin with healthy nutrients and can help clear it up. Tanning suggests excess sunlight. You should always put sunblock with an spf of about 40 if you are going to be in the sun for longer than a few minutes.
Tanning promotes skin cancer and ages the skin rapidly and beyond repair. When you get older your skin will look like leather.
Tanning booths are not a good idea.

Tanning does NOT help clearup acne. That is a myth. By the way tanning is bad for your skin altogether. If you must be tan, use the spray on stuff. To help clear up your skin, don't drink soda, drink more water and eat right.

Your question sounds to me like you're looking for an answer to getting rid of acne. Not whether or not you can tan with acne. I don't think it's a bad idea for a few sessions but I think your best bet would be a visit to a dermatolgist. They will help you with certin medications that will help to clear you up.
Personally, I would stay as far away from tanning salons as I could. A co-worker of mine went to one a few weeks ago and ended up with a FUNGUS (YUCK!!) and that's just plain ol' nasty. She's assuming it was from the towels they gave her since she disinfected the bed herself so bring your own towels if you go!
Get to that Dr asap.
Good Luck!

Tanning can help clear up skin because the ultraviolet rays and the heat produced helps dry up oils. You have to be careful though because excessive tanning can lead to skin cancer.
