Hold down the power button for 15-20 seconds (until the computer shuts off. If all else fails remove the battery and remove the power cord. With no power your laptop only has one choice... immediate surrender. (oops i mean shut down... lol)

If you pull the cord and the battery, the hard drive didnt shut down properly.... Be very careful while transporting the pc, because if the reading head is over the disk it can damage the drive.....
If you can, plug it back in, at the bios screen hold the power button to shut it off, this will shut the drive down properly, and put the reading head in its cradle......

Hold the on-off switch down for at least five seconds. This will force the hardware to cut power regardless of what the operating system does. Just hold it down until the computer shuts off (about five seconds).

ok ether press and hold the power botton untill it shuts off or take the battery off
witht hat err are you useing you laptop on a flat surface and have all the fans clear and not blocked ? if so then there maybe a software err going on and not a over heatting problem
