santorini is a volcanic island, situated in the south aegean sea.(Greece) due to several of the severest eruptions during the last 20.000 years in human history, one of the largest "caldera" on this planet was created.
Surely it should belong to the list of unesco's world geological heritage, as it is of unique beauty and one of only a few caldera (craters) that reach into the sea.
Does it finally belong to the world geological heritage?
I cannot find any information concerning this topic in the internet.

So far as I can tell, the following two sites are the only Greek geoparks under Unesco auspices:

Psiloritis Natural Park

There was a 1997 international meeting on Natural Monuments and Geological Heritage in Greece and the following was on the agenda: Proposal for the environmental management of Santorini Volcano. I do not know what came of it.
