If "standard" means 25 yards, then 66 lengths = 1650 yards, which is considered a mile in competitive swimming. If, by chance, the pool is 50 meters, then 1500 meters is considered a metric "mile."

Putting it simple, a standard size swimming pool is 25 m in lenght therefore to work out the amount of lenghts to swim to achieve a 1 mile distance, you would do the following: (1 mile) divided by (25 meters) = 64.37376 x 25 m lengths. The full distance in meters being a total of 1.609344 kilometers.

Hope this helps you.

Find the lenth of the pool in feet, divide 5280 by the lenth of the pool. The result is the number of pool lengths needed to swim a mile.

The "swimmers" mile for competition in the US is 1650 yards, but a "real" mile is 1760 yards. So if your pool is a 25 yd pool ( a common lenght in the US) a real mile is 70.4 lengths or 35 laps, plus a little bit.

Minky, I'm not trying to be a smartass, but the answer you seek depends upon the length of the pool. Did you have a specific pool-length in mind?
