Unfortunately I threw my instructions and have never taken them before. Do I continue taking the pills during my period because they are placebo pills or is there a time when I don't take them? I only have 4 more pills in my packet and I haven't started my period yet. I am NOT pregnant. I recently went thru a D & C and am trying to get my body back into rhythm. thanks.

Well, I take ortho-tri-cyclin and I get my period when I take my green pills (the non-active pills) in the very middle .. the ones taken at the very end of the month. There are 7 green pills and I get my period towards the 3rd green pill. DO NOT SKIP PILLS. They are called "sugar pills" but take them ALL. If they are in your packet, TAKE THEM! No pills should be skipped! Not even the "sugar pills". I think if you start skipping the sugar pills then you will accidentally skip other pills during the month. Take them all like clockwork .. it will not cause you any harm if you just dont take the last 7 pills ("sugar pills") .. but I think taking ALL of them will keep you on track and make you remember to take them regularly.
Also, you can SKIP your period by skipping the last 7 pills in the pack and starting a new pack immediately. (but not reccommended unless you have a special occasion that you don't want Aunt Flow interrupting! :)

good luck! God bless!

Whenever I started back on birthcontrol I normally would get a very light period the first month, and sometimes no period at all. Once my body was used to the pills I would normally get my period on the second or third day.

Also, if you have the birth control pack that has 4 weeks you are supposed to take the pills continuously - meaning there shouldn't be a day where you don't take a pill. The placebo pills are there to keep you in the habit of taking your pill regularly.

Hope this helps :)

Well the last 7 pills are placebo pills. So during this week span you should get your period but not on any particular day. You could start on Saturday or your last day of placebo pill. None the less make sure to start your next active pack when scheduled even if you have or haven't started your period. If you are concerned you may be pregnant see your doctor. Otherwise it can happen that you may skip a period here and there while on the pill.

The last week of pills in the packet are non-active placebo pills. Typically, you will start your cycle when you are in the placebo week. Yes, keep taking the placebo pills during your cycle. Keeps you in the habit of taking them regularly. You may start anytime now, so just watch for it. If you are concerned , you can always check with your doctor's office too.

Have you considered having less cycles per year? I did and it is great. You can take 2 pill packets(active pills only) and then stop for a week to have a cycle or at most take 3 packets( active pills only) and then stop for a week. My cycle was not any heavier following this schedule. First you start with the 2 packets for a couple months and then build up to the 3 packets. Always check with your doctor first before starting this.

The last week of pills are placebo pills. Generally speaking, you should have your period that week. A D&C can be very traumatic to your body and may delay your period for possibly a couple of months. As for the last week of pills, you really do not need to take them. They are they only to keep the daily routine there for the month. I wouldn't worry about not getting your period yet, but you may want to ask your doctor as well.

You usually get your period during the time you are taking the placebo pills. I usually get mine around the 3rd or 4th placebo pill.

KEEP TAKING them ON SCHEDULE even if you don't get your period. It may take more than one month to get you back to regular. So when the time comes to start the next pack (even if you don't get your period) start them on time and continue.

Although they are placebos and don't do anything, they are mainly there to keep you in the habit of taking the pill every day.
