I've recently applied to 3 Cal-State schools with the intention to major in business administration but I've also applied to 5 University of California schools and (with the exception of Berkeley) declared my major to be something like managerial economics, management science (in the economics major), or business economics. I'm currently majoring in business administration right now at my community college. My question is, is there really much of a difference between majoring in business administration and majoring in economics? I've visited the schools' websites and found that there is some overlap, but there are also differences. I was wondering if it would make much of a difference if I went into economics or if I should just stick to business administration since that's what I'm already studying.

There is much overlap between the two at the undergrad level.

As BBA, you will receive the foundations of learning and running a business. You may find that one particular field interests you over another such as Finance, or Operations Mgmt or HR or whatever. You will also take some economics, two semesters if I remember correctly. After you graduate you will either go on for your MS or MBA or struggle to find a job. BBA majors are a dime a dozen and that degree by itself has no real "wow" factor to employers. Plain and simple truth.

For a BA/BS in economics, you will of course receive the rudiments of economics...macro, micro, managerial, applied, econometrics, public policy and so on. Like the BBA, you can specialize in one specialty or just be a generalist. Unlike the BBA, the BA/BS will actually get you some attention, especially if you like econometrics from employers. You actually have a decent chance of getting a job as an economist (jr or entry level) at a firm (BBA gets you sales or similar...just being honest here).

With either degree, you really need to get your MS or MBA. An MS in economics is a guaranteed job. An MBA is also a job - but it may take you longer to actually land it.

Pick whichever you are more interested in. The Economics track is more focused and technically driven. The MBA being more broad will give you more latitude in landing job.

Either way, pick the one you like the most. Nothing sucks more than being in a job you hate.

The corporation and Economics field overlap. I mean in college the comparable courses could desire to be taken to get a level in the two. i think of it could be suitable to seek for a school that combine the majors as one. in keeping with precisely what pastime you desire to get it won't remember in case you significant in Economics or corporation.
