Today's Hip-Hop is for those under 25. I'm 34 and I can't listen to any rap songs that came out after 1996. How did Jay-Z become this 'so-called' No.1 rapper? He saturated the airwaves with the same crap year after year with the same subjects on all his records. Also, he illegally sampled rhymes from a lot of old-school rappers. He got put in his place when he tried to diss Nas. If Hip-Hop doesn't go back to the days when you could talk about anything you want freely on the records, it will die like disco did. All I'm requesting that they bring back the subjects they used to discuss. when every rapper is talking about fantasies than realities in their lives, it gets morbid. the record companies are the blame as well. They should allow more variety to be distributed as well.

Until people start realizing what "Hip Hop" really is, it's dead. I knew true Hip Hop fans were in trouble when a few years ago Sisqo won a grammy for best "Hip Hop artist"

I'm 30 and I come from the days of De La, Tribe, Freestyle Fellowship, etc. That is "Hip Hop" it was supposed to provide an alternative to the political and gangsta rap that was dominating

Now we have everybody from Justin Timberlake to Ice Cube lumped into Hip Hop and that is why the true fans are lost.

True Hip Hop fans have to get out an support our artists and those artists need to speak up on what real hip hop is.

I could'nt have said it better, I grew up in the 80's and hip hop was'nt even on the radio. I miss the days of mc's and dj's, but more importantly I miss real hip hop. Todays stuff is the ultimate when it comes to the dumbing down of rap. Changes are coming because the industry ( a 4 billion dollar a year industry ) is seeing a major decline in sales. It's because nothing new and exciting is out. Every Young Jeezy song is the same song, and it's getting old fast. The industry had better start looking into promoting more artists like Common and Talib Kweli. People are wanting more, it's time for the fun and intellect to come back. I can't take any more "pop, lock, and drop it"!

It seemed like hip-hop was in intensive care when 2pac died, but it died when B.I.G died (March 1997). I agree with you on Jay-Z. I don't see the big hype. He doesn't suck, but he ain't all that to me either. I've always liked a variety of rap..from the reality to the fantasy. Problem is.. too many people speak of fantasy. If some people spoke about fantasy, other about reality, then it'd be OK (mostly reality). Like Nas said, Hip Hop is Dead, but if we don't make a change, it will be buried as well.
