Extinction is used to describe the disappearance of all members of a species, be it an animal or a plant.
Historically, animal forms have become extinct due to excessive consumption (not always hunting) by humans. Still, humans can also extinguish a species through artificially changing their environments (as with a dam or a city) or by introducing an alien species in their ecosystem (in Hawaii, for example, many native species have disappeared because of competition by foreign species). Extinction can happen without human interference though, so it could be understood as the inability of a species to adapt to changes in their environment.

Extinction works when there are not enough members of a species left to procreate in number. This situation is usually brought about by circumstances that can be both internal and external to the species, while said circumstances generally affect the very survival of the species, it is usually these circumstances that are in large part responsible for the extinction itself.
Some examples of circumstance could be a change in food supply, a change in the habitat of the species (whether through climate or natural disaster or otherwise), disease, an increase or decrease in that species' predators, and so on.

Take say an animal like a polar bear. When the last one dies there are no more to replace it so the animal is then extinct. That is polar bears no longer exist anywhere.

First you spell poorly. Then you lose your job to someone who spells correctly. You starve. They prosper. The end.
