Without money, we'd have to go back to the barter system, which was not a feature of an enlightened or prosperous society.
Money is absolutely necessary as a medium of exchange in any prosperous country. It expands the economy by allowing people to specialize, and to have a means of exchange for items they need.
If I make, say, keyboard keys, how do I exchange that for a car, a mattress, or even a loaf of bread? I can't, because the only people who want or need them are keyboard manufacturers. And trading keys for keyboards won't do much for me either, because the dealership, the furniture salesman and the baker don't want a handful of keyboards, either.
The only way the keyboard manufacturer and I can make a living doing this is by having an accepted and standardized medium of exchange. This makes manufacturing on a large scale possible, and makes the economy more efficient. When everybody is using the same standard of exchange, it also has the effect of better utilization of resources, as those who can make the most profit from the resources are willing to pay more for those resources.
A barter society would be hard-pressed to go beyond being a village or tribal society, such as the American Indians or the African Bushmen.
It would be very bad for mankind. Billions would starve, civilization would crumble, basically.

All trade, and thus all rational & efficient mass-production would be very very complicated indeed.
Money makes it quick & easy to buy & sell stuff, to get the things you need - spend 20 mins at the supermarket or 23 hours a day? You decide. Without it, you would have to look for other people who want to buy exactly what you are selling to swap with - the govt & police would cease to exist.
And if everyone gave everything away & shared everything, except for 1% of us, who hoarded it & did not share - the outcome would be disasterous for the 99%.
It's a really great question to ask, but believe me, if you were queen and decreed it to be no longer used, you would be reintroducing it the following day.

We live in a capitalistic nation that requires money to function. Take that away and the United States will quickly fall into anarchy and cease to be a world superpower. It really is too bad we are all so greedy. It would be a better world if we all did things for the benefit of humanity instead of our bank accounts. Let's face it, it just won't happen in our lifetime.

Responding to "go avs", we would "ascend" or "evolve" into anarchy, not "fall" into it, as anarchy is the only morally acceptable form of government - genuine SELF government, not trying to govern others. Alas, you are correct that it will not happen in our lifetimes; probably never. Humans as a species simply do not have the intellect or emotional strength to deal with it. Just as most cannot get through life with believing (or at least claiming to believe) things "super"natural.
Economics (money), Government, and Religion are the three inextricably intertwined heads of the metaphorical "beast" (EGoR)of human creation which, unless humans see it in time to destroy it, will ultimately be the destruction of this species.

Without money, when trading one good for another we would have to use the barter system. Problem with that system is, something is only worth what you think it is. With money as the common item of bartering, $5 to you is $5 to me, but I might value things more or less than you. Money makes the task of bartering and trading a lot easier by providing an agreed upon standard of value, I think it would be pointless to do away with it.

What is money? it's the stuff we use to buy things with...
What happens when we all stop using it? We will have little micro-chips in our hands to buy things with (that is the sign of the Devil)
Why do we need it? Because without it we wouldnt be able to live...we kinda need it just like we need water & food...
Is it possible to live without it....No..its Not possible to live without money...
If we gave up on using money & traded things for other things...someone would have a problem with that...somewhere!
If we all agreed to help each other...Wouldnt that be nice! & Love each other...hmmmm...that'd be different...
Giving up on the Government, the FRN & us stop using money leads us back to Satanism....read up on it...they are implanting those chips into peoples hands as we speak....England is big on doing it...why do you think they are talking about getting rid of the penny? eventually.....we will be a cashless society...

I wish it could be this way, too. But people are selfish and want what they don't need. And certain people who are big a.ssholes would decide at some point to stop loving and helping others and hoard things for themselves. Greed is the human vice. No matter what economic system we live under, people are going to hoard and spend on things they don't need.
It's happening in America - the rich always richer, the poor always poorer.

You're pretty hot but I suggest not asking stupid questions like this anymore. It kind of ruins it.
Cheers.
