It's not something you should plan out. I do have two examples though...First, my friend FREAKED out! She got all excited and started crying and hugging her man. He then had to tell her she didn't answer. She screamed, "Oh my gosh! YES! OF COURSE!....The second example is of me and and my fiance. We both knew he was going to do it and I had a strong feeling it was going to be this particular day, but I didn't know when exactly that night. When he asked, I was all giggly and I said something to the effect of, "are you kidding me! Ahh. YES! Oh, honey. I love you so much!"--- now keep in mind, I was like sobbing as I said this.

Simply respond yes or no. However, with many couples contemplating marriage, they are most likely aware that marriage is close and the question does not come as a surprise. They are ready to say, yes.

I had been visiting my family in NY and my home bound flight to Dallas was running a bit late and it was already 10:30 at night I had been hoping trains all morning then on a four hour flight and I was three months pregnant So I was extremely exhausted. When I finally got off my flight he was sitting looking extremely nervous by my gate. He told me he had forgotten to lock his car doors and wanted me to come with him while we waited for my bags. After he begged a little bit I finally said I'd go with him when we got to the car he unlocked the door pulled out 3 dozen roses and and an engagement ring. I was so shocked I started to shake then cry then I punched his arm for tricking me to come out to the car. After we got my bags from claims he took me to dinner and I showed everybody who would look my ring. I know it's kinda cheesy but It was one of the happiest days in my life.

People say yes because the asker it the one the love and want to spend the rest of their lives with... that's not your question is it? Now I'm confused. HOW do they say it? With excitement and glee?

Assuming that he asks....... and assuming that you truly want to marry this person.........

He says, "I love you and want to spend the rest of our lives together. Will you marry me?"

You smile and respond, "I love you so much. Yes, I will marry you."

Then the kissing commences!

My husband asked me if I would like to marry him, and I said "of course". Not the most romantic answer, but the one that popped into my head.

I would assume they would say yes in their retrospective languages. I'm from Scotland and would assume a lot of women here would say 'Aye'.
