The best players in the NBA are international players. Why? It's because they play fundamental basketball. The American NBA players can no longer play at the level of their international counterparts. They try to woo the fans with playground antics instead of playing fundamental basketball. You woo the fans by winning games-----simple as that.

Absolutely retarded!

And I'm talking about the people answering this question. Tim Duncan is a foreign born player MORONS. He's from the Virgin Islands, not the USA.

And you're arguing you'd take Kevin Durant over any foreign player. That's because Durant grew up playing basketball the right way. His coach didn't allow him to play pick up basketball because it's trash and deteroiates your skills, especially defensive skills. Durant did drills not showtime.

Dirk is the best player, Nash is a close 2nd. Germany and Canada. Gasol is from Spain. Tony Parker, Boris Diaw from France. Manu Ginobili is from Argentina. Yao Ming from China. Last year's overall number one pick Andrea Bargnani from Italy. The year before that the overall number one pick was from Austrailia Andrew Bogut.

You got a long list of players.... Peja Stojakovic, Andres Nocioni, Nenad Kristic, Mehmet Okur, Loul Deng, Leandro Barbosa, Andrei Kirilenko, the list goes on and on

American players play poorly compared to International players. You can't deny it.

Give me a group of international players vs the US players and they win.

Starting 5
PG Nash
SG Ginobili
SF Kirilenko
PF Nowitzki
C Gasol

Bench
Parker
Yao
Barbosa
Stojakovic
Okur
Deng
Bogut

They win

Asaph23, yeah that's very true, but they don't play selfish "pop my collar" basketball down in the Virgin Islands do they? They play the international game, which is a team game and fundamentally sound, hence Duncan is called the Big Fundamental. That is why International players are better they don't have to pop their collars and act all big and bad, their game speaks for itself

What? International players like who? Yes Dirk and Yao but who else. Paul Gasol, Ginobili, Parker who are you referring to? Basketball is still ran by Americans and we can not use the Olympics because the best TEAM do not represent us. I would take the talent of Kobe, Lebron, hell I will even say Kevin Durant over an international player anyday. And fundamental basketball, who wants to see fundamentals. We have college Bball for that, the NBA is a soup opera that I watch everyday and don't miss an episode. And winning games "rings" Kobe and Wade vs Dirk and Yao...um I think their fingers are alittle heavier with international diamonds!!!!!

Are you serious? Among the best players in the NBA are (not particularly in this order): Kobe, Lebron, Dirk, Nash, Wade, Carmelo, Iverson, Yao, Shaq, Carter, Kidd, Amare, Allen, Duncan, Ginobili, Garnett, Parker......etc

And how many international players do you see?

This proves that your question is ignorant. Just because we have a few international players who can dominate in the league does not mean the league is without American talent. And the international stars are only a few out of the many super stars in the NBA.

THANK YOU!!!!!!! YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!

god i love you. Micheal jordon, Magic, Bird, and others did drills. Kobe, T-Mac, lebron, and other big names played no college and make money being ball hogs, showing how high they can jump, and dunking coolly.

But the legends i had earlier did drills and learned fundamentals. they didn't do flashy dunks all the time. they passed around till they had an open shot. not taking crazy kobe shots.

mello, wade, and Durant and Oden. went and are going to college. they learned fundamental ball. they pass, don't take bad shots, and can see what's going on around the court.

International players learned right from the experts. Each country put expert trainers on them. Like conditioning, shooting, dribbling, game tape, and all that good stuff. They learned not watching gangsters jumping 20 feet in the air dunking or not looking while passing. they learned from coaches teaching Fundamentals.

the High school stars grew up playing for city leagues where they were taught mere dribbling, shooting, and passing to the lowest degree. In High School it became more advanced and complicated. that's what it should be like. but did they listen? no. they watched crazy shots, dunks from foul lines, and behind the back passes. That's why Americans now tend to be worse at fundamentals.

Also the Hip-Hop culture plays into this. if they weren't worried of becoming gangster by doing sweet moves they'd be more court friendly. not streetball friendly.

thtas all folks.

I agree to some extent. Some of the big name American talents didn't go to college to learn fundamentals and HOW TO WIN. Look at Garnett, LeBron, Tracy McGrady. Kobe without Shaq.

These guys never had to play in the NCAA tourney and learn to compete. They dominated in high school and jumped right to the NBA.

Dwayne Wade went to college and took Marquette to the final four. Even Carmelo spent a year and won a national championship. One year in college might help Oden and Durant become better NBA players.

With the exception of Kobe (who had Shaq) and Moses Malone (I don't think he went to college), few people jumping from high school to the NBA have done very well AND won a title.

I agree with you to some extent in that. However the best players in the NBA are American born and bred.

The International players due tend to focus more on passing and shootin fundamentals more than the US players.

P.S. - The Virgin Island are called the US Virgin Island for a reason. They are considered US territory much like Guam, and Puerto Rico.

Kobe Bryant? Nash (he played at Santa Clara), Dwayne Wade, Tim Duncan, KG, this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. So Dirk and Yao are ballers. But come on, are you serious?

Joshua F, Duncan played 4 years at Wake Forest. His freshman year he was nothing special. I'd say this is an "American" player for this arguement, unlike Dirk or Yao who were drafted from overseas.

I think that in the upcoming years all that will change. There is alot of young talent emerging in the NBA including Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, and Andrew Bynum and in the NCAA : Kevin Durant and Greg Oden. Also the new NBA age limit will force youngsters to go to college and learn the fundamentals of the game.

They might be a little more fundemental, but their best player(dirk), is not the best in the league. And dont try and tell me Tim Duncan is not fundemental, he is the whitest playing black guy that there is. And then there is KG, lebron. kobe. There is no lack of skill, maybe a small lack of fundementals and possibly some heart. But they are as studly as it gets.
