What is the proceedure please for bringing a criminal prosecution against someone?

File a complaint at your local police office. The police should take it from there.

The police arrest the person. The prosecutor(s) decide to prosecute. The suspect is arraigned, indicted and a trial begins.

I guess the police would have to be involved, a civil prosecution would be another matter and one you could do privately
