I plug it into headphone jack. How can I get sound out of both? thank you

Check the wires that connect the speakers together for any breaks (spots where you can see the wire) in the protective coating. If you find any... wrap the break with electrical tape (the black tape)... should work fine from there. If the wire isn't covered the speaker won't play. SImple as that.

It's ridiculously easy to get breaks in the cords, especially if you own a cat.

1. Sometimes the connector isn't seated properly, remove it and plug it back in, turning it a bit sometimes helps too

2. Check your volume control on the system tray, you can adjust it so that balance only plays out one one side of your speaker

Sounds like your speakers are busted honestly. You could troubleshoot them on someone elses laptop.

there maybe a loose wire in the back or it may require batteries
