People have a problem with change.
It doesn't really matter what it is. Not even a little.
They buy a Chevy cause that's what their father did.
They buy Tide cause that's what their momma did.
If no one in their family got spanked, they don't spank.
There hasn't been a Black Man President, and won't be.
If you think it is more complicated than that, it isn't...
People are afraid of anything they don't know, or understand.
Doesn't matter what...Eat your black eyed peas on New Years,
it doesn't help anything, but it has always been done, so do it.
Change takes time and thought. The two things people think they don't have, or don't have time for. It's going to be very hard, but a better day is coming. Our eyes are starting to open up, to see the real world, and what it really can be. Change will take a
little longer. So, back to my eggs and grits, cause that's what people have for breakfast here. Wouldn't dare think of eating
something else, like a waffle. God Bless You All. Vote Smart.

I think people are confusing your question right now with an opinion. It seems that people are attaking you for asking this question however I think it is a very interesting one and I'm curious to see some educated responses. I personally am indifferent, as long as the person is qualified race should not matter. However, I don't think that is how a majority of the US feels. Everyday I turn on the news and it seems we are back to where we started with racism. When we reach that point that we can accept each other for who we are not what color we are then I think we will be able deal with an african american president.

This isn't the first election that a Black person has run for president, nor is it the first time a woman has run. It is the first time that the canidate has a chance to gain the support of their party.
I don't think it's a matter of whether or not we are ready for a black president, because the color of his skin shouldn't matter in his policies or legislation. I believe that most rational people will look beyond the color of their skin and vote for the best canidate, white, black, man or woman.
Of course there will always be the ignorant bigots who will refuse to vote for someone because of what's on the outside.

No, Americans and opinions of race, sex, creed, background, national origin, physical traits, or polka dots and plaid are swayed by one photo or one sentence said at the right or wrong time
I would like to think that we are, the sad truth is, if we were to be put on the Scale of Justice, we would be weighed, balanced and found to be lacking.
Six second sound bytes and one photo op can make or break what could be the most earnest candidates chances for an office.
A hot babe might have a chance, but I do not know why a hot babe, or anyone of sound mind would want to be elected.

If we still have to ask this question or it is a center of debate then american is not ready. If the colour of thier skin is still over shadowing thier true qualitys then no. However if the question was, "would a Black president improve america" then i would say for sure!! Would love a black president to take over from the redneck cowboy in charge now!

We have a few minorities running for President, don't we? We have Hilary Clinton our female candidate, Barack Obama our African American candidate and lets not forget Bill Richardson who is our Hispanic candidate from my home state of New Mexico. I would love it if any of these three candidates won, its time for some new blood in the White House!

I am really looking forward to there being an African American president. But, as a whole, I don't think that the United States is ready for one considering all of the racism that is still going on.

Ready is a tricky word. Even if race riots begin and suddenly the kkk swells in numbers does that mean we weren't ready? I think almost everyone I know in real life would have no problem with it at all. But I have also met many an ignoramous bigot.
