I am planning on surprising my boyfriend for his birthday with a trip to Disney World. We both have been wanting to go there and I saved enough money to go. I was hoping to go the end of April. Does anyone have suggestions for hotels that are not part of the Disney Resorts? I am not looking for the cheapest, but something that is worth its money is not too crazy of a price. If you have stayed in the Disney area and had a good experience at a hotel please help me out.

I rented a villa instead of a hotel and for about the same price! Most of the villas come with their own private pool. Type in Villas for rent in Orlando. I think I used Villas Direct.

If you are going to Disney, the best way to go is stay at a Disney resort. Price wise they are comparable to any resort in the Orlando area. Secondly, there are perks that you get as a Disney resort guest that you don't get staying off property. Unlimited use of the transportation system is one. The off-site hotels have shuttle service, but at some places it costs extra. You also are stuck with their schedule. The Disney resorts all have bus services that make getting to and from the parks easy. Another perk is that resort guests are never restricted from entering the park. Let's face it, Disney is always busy. If the park is crowded, non-resort guest entrance may be restricted. I was a witness to this the last time I was there. We went at Easter, and the Magic Kingdom was pretty crowded. Those people who were not resort guests were in line waiting to get into the park, but my family and I walked right in. Boy, the people in line were pretty upset. Also, they have extra magic hours for resort guests only. Each day one park is open early and one late, so guests can take advantage of some of the more popular attractions, and not have such a line. I am going again over Easter, and planning to use the Extra Magic for the Magic Kingdom one night. It will be pretty cool watching everyone else have to leave, and I get to stay and have the park to myself.
These are only a few of the advantages to staying on the property. If you both have been wanting to go, try to get the most out of your vacation. For what you are going to spend at some of the other hotels, you could stay at a Disney hotel.

Have a great trip!!

You bet. I enjoy staying at the Lake Suites, Best Western Lakeside, or the Sheraton Safari Resort. The Lake Suites are condo style rooms. They have a full kitchen and some are even bi-level. A Single level family suite is only about $69 a night. And they offer a complimentary shuttle to and from the parks which leaves every 30 minutes.

The Best Western Lakeside is located off Hwy 192 in Kissimmee and only 3 minutes from Disney's Animal Kingdom and Blizzard Beach parks. They are a nice resort with 3 pretty pools, a decent buffet-style restaurant, friendly staff, nice rooms (with mini fridge), min. golf course for kids, bar & grill and complimentary shuttle to the parks. Rooms are as low as $59 a night in the off-peak season.

The Sheraton Safari can be quite a bit more money than these two, but not outrageous. Rooms are typically in the $120 - $140 range. In the winter, their rooms go for about $115 a night. They are located across the street from the entrance to Downtown Disney in Lake Buena Vista. The resort is beautiful!

There are a number of places you can stay. If you want to stay on property and get all the perkes of being on property such as extra magic hours which may get you into the parks an hour early or stayup to 3 hours later after the park is closed. If you stay at a resort near Downtown Disney you would still be on propety and you get free trasportation to and from the parks and you get extra magic hours as well beacuse these hotel on this web site http://www.downtowndisneyhotels.com/ are still part of disney and they arnt that expensive as the otheres. Checkl them out and hope you have a great trip to Walt Disney World.

I would have to say your better off stayingg on Disney grounds at one of there HOTELS. You could stay at POP century or heck even the Grand Floridian. There are so many perks to stayin on Disney property. You have free transportation to and from all WDW attractions. Plus you can take advantage of extra magic hours. There are also packages that include your hotel, Food and trans portion to and from the airport if your flying! It really is a good deal. I my self have stayed at many Disney resorts From the contemporary to Pop and all the resorts are very nice and very well kept. Plus just being a resort guest means that you can get into the parks early and have the guest advantage! So I WOULD STAY ON DISNEY PROPERTY!

I am going to Orlando next month also. I wanted the Hilton Resort but they were booked. We ended up with Embassy Suites at Lake Buena Vista. It is not part of the Disney Resort but its very close to it and you are very close to the major attractions. I do hope they have renovated most of the rooms because reviews I've read for 2005 and 2006 were not great. It is an older hotel. But I think its reasonable. Breakfast comes free with the room. Hope you enjoy your stay whereever you end up. May want to also check out Holiday Inn Express nearby.

There are a lot of hotels all around Disney but if you stay on the property you won't need a car (I assume you are flying). You can stay at All Stars or Carribean Beach on Disney property reasonably if you aren't there during spring break. If you want to drive around, there are a ton of hotels nearby. Check the web or better yet, a travel agent for best prices.

The hotels in Kissimmee are all much more reasonable than the Disney property resorts.

I have had great luck with the Residence Inn in Kissimmee.

It's about 5 miles to the main gate ... lots of restaurants and attractions there, as well.

It is worth staying on property. Buses run basically almost 24/7 to parks, shops, water parks. It is stupid not to. You can hotel hop as well. I used to work @ Disney so please let me know if you need help!
