Steel wool. Sandpaper leaves scratch marks

You probably can leave it alone for now. When summer comes, you should sand it smooth with a fine sandpaper, but only if you're planning to wear shorts amd miniskirts. Bikinis and thongs require a different approach. Sand to your crotch if your wooden leg is all the way. Don't use the sander for the bikini trim.

Not sure why you need to sand it but if it just has a surface that is getting a bit rough, use 220 grit. This is a fine grit paper. It should remove minor blemishes.

It depends on what your wanting to do with that leg! the higher the grit, the smoother the finish. Usually you want to start with a lower grit and move up to higher, more fine sandpaper as it gets closer to being finished.
