It is transferred or transformed.

Since this is a detailed subject, and would require a bit of space to explain properly, I've put a link which goes to a really good and easy to understand explanation.

Energy = Force * Distance, so by lifting a bar in the air or moving a boat in the ocean transfers energy. And rememeber that any Force has to have mass (even light has mass).

Not only can energy be transformed, it can also be stored. Basic conservation of energy principle:

Total Energy = E in - E out + E stored

Look at energy as the mail in a post office with letters, packages, and post cards being various types of energy.

it gets converted to other forms. For example a ball sitting on a shelf has a certain amount of potential energy. if this ball then falls off the shelf it loses its potential energy on the way down. But this potential energy gets turned into mostly kinetic energy as it falls.

"life essence" is metaphysical rubbish, no longer power. people do burn power, of direction, and a visit to the bookshop will demonstrate a extensive pile of weight loss plan books, which includes the lists of Caloric values (quantity of power) in ingredients. this is many times been my experience that lifeless people do no longer consume plenty. No nutrition, no Krebs cycle, no longer something to function and subtract.

1st Law of Thermodynamics (conservation of energy):

Energy is neither created nor destroyed; it just changes form
(kinetic energy, potential energy, heat, radiant energy, mass)

It changes form, often to heat.

Also it can change to mass, hence e = mc^2
