Genetic defect, mutation, easier to draw?

Personally, I lost my other finger in 'Nam!

i always wanted to know the answer to that question too. its weird how every cartoon haas only four fingers. maybe its to distinguish the difference between people and cartoons.

i think it was because animators found it easier to draw a hand with 4 digits then five. hands are really difficult to draw. I've always had trouble with hands.
