With no supporting context, there is more than one possibility.

The implicit point is that the speaker made a decision, acted on it, and now apparently regrets that action.



1-The speaker may want sympathy from a friend

2-The speaker may want to justify the action to him/her self.

3-The speaker may want to create an appearance of him/her being a victim, perhaps to add to point 2-.

4-The speaker is looking for advice, and this is a prelude to the actual request..

Obviously the person making this remark is trying to avoid personal responsibility for what happened in thier life because they felt they were unfairly influenced or duped into it. It is worth noting however that as adults we are all resposible for our own actions influenced or not.

That the person felt like they were at a weak point in their lives and did things they would not normally do.

seems like your friend is looking to shift the blame, i would interprite it as the person is just deluded
