Theres a family of racoons in my attic. i assumed the got in through one of the vents and when i went up there, I heard them hissing at me and saw that they had two babies(those two were the only ones i saw at the time). I dont want to harm them in any way but how do i get them out of my house?

If you can do it safely, put a radio turned up loud, turn lights on, and put a dish of moth balls up there. Raccoons want a quiet dark place to sleep and HATE the mothball smell. Make sure you can do this without going into the attic - raccoon bites are painful and dangerous, you would need to undergo rabies shots if you get bit or scratched. Whatever way you get them out, make sure to find out how they got in and fix it so they can't come back.

Watch out about calling pest controls if you dont want them harmed. Most states in the US consider Racoons a pest animal, if the Pest control is called they will not re-release racoons. They will kill them, most often not humanely. The general way to kill a live traped animal with releasing it is to throw it in a tub of water and drown them, Shelters if they will, sometimes will trap and release, depends on if they carry a wildlife license or not. Its illegal to dump re-released racoons or other wildlife on private property and you need permission to re-release animals on state land. Calling the DNR will be your best bet and then ask them what happens to the live trapped animals. Live trapping is a good, safe, humane way but you need to try to catch them all at the same time. If only one is caught and the others see it happening the chances are that they will not go into the trap again after being reset. If you get the babies first then mom will follow them out of the attic, and the trauma of the whole order will usually scare her from coming back. If the babies are very very small its best to wait for a while, Trapping young babies and trying to relocate them will bother mother to an extent that she may abandon them all together once released. IF the babies eyes and ears are open and they are moving on there own around the area they are at a safe age to transport. I suggest all this off course if you dont want them harmed. IF you dont care too much then by all means call a pest control or live trap them as others have suggested. I have fostered, raised, and re-released raccoons for 9 years I have a wildlife rehab license through my previous employment. I currently am rehabilitation 2 baby racoons caught in a simular situation where the home owner shot the mother for being a pest. He found her 2 babies in the woodpile after the deed.

You can have them professionally removed, instead of causing yourself or anyone else harm, especially the animals. Call animal control, or a pest control service in your area and they will advise you on what would be the best option for removal.

You will have to either set up a cat trap or call Animal Control to catch them and relocate them.

call either animal control or a local wildlife trapper. They'll humanely trap the animals and move them all to a new, safe location.

Your local shelter can lend you traps, set them for you, and set the raccoons free if they aren't diseased. This is the safest way to handle your situation. Be careful. Raccoons can carry rabies.

havaheart traps will humanely trap the animals. talk with your local fish and wildlife officials. it's often illegal to randomly 'rehome' raccoons. keep in mind that if you can rehome them, take them a long way away. i have heard stories of trapped raccoons returning to their original location.

you are going to have to call some one from the human society these things will tear you up if you try you are going to need a net or something they will then take them and test them to make sure they have no kind of disease and if they dont they will let them go back into the wild or tame them enough to home them if you have a dog keep it away from them they will tear your dog up
