Honesty is the best policy, but it depends on the situation.

There is a fine line between being mean, and being honest, there is a difference though. To be mean is to purposely do or say something to hurt someone, and to be honest is just to speak the truth, let someone know how you feel. When you are being honest, I don't think it has anything to do with being mean. It may seem mean, but it isn't. When people say something truthful, but in a snotty way, that is different, so no it is not ok.

No, Its not okay. Even if you mean well you could be making the other person feel bad, and that isn' t right. You can be honest and mean in a nice way, by saying it with just you and the person or just saying it in a nice way. the person will never no if you are being mean.

No, it doesn't make it OK. That's only their way of justifying being mean. There's never a good excuse for being mean to someone.

Depends on the person who you were mean to. Some people can feel no affect by words. And some get hurt. It's the person who said it that has the problem. Take peoples feelings into consideration before saying something.

Mean is in the eye of the beholder. If I tell you something you don't want to hear, you may think it is mean. It is in the delivery and in the reception. I could say something that is 100% true, without using insulting words, but if that person is overly sensitive and defensive and unwilling to logically look at it from another perspective, they may still think it is "mean".

"no it doesn't you should never hurt people's feelings."

roflcopters at all those types of answers.

I encourage instead of saying "but I'm just being honest" you should just point and laugh at their pitiful assess until they're so ashamed that they kill themselves. If that's not effective, try spitting on them, and hitting them with sticks.

But in the case of truly personal relationships, like me and my girlfriend, when I'm trying to say something to her that I think might be mean, I usually follow it up with a 'and wash that 4ss *****, you smell like a fish market' then I smack the sht out of her.

Being mean is mean. You are only trying to justify being mean to someone and they are not going to like you or the situation.

I'm not sure if it's right or not, but it IS brutal. If I'm mean to someone for any reason I feel terrible for days. Can't sleep etc...
So I try to avoid being mean.
(Although I am regularily mean to Sandstorm, and I don't lose sleep over it...)
