Stress can delay ovulation (when the egg is released) and thus your period. Stress, exercise, weight loss, weight gain, illness, and all sorts of other things can affect ovulation. Generally, ovulation occurs about 11-16 days before your period, that is pretty standard. Unfortunately, you can't know for awhile whether you are pregnant, but because of the stress, I would bet that you aren't pregnant. I chart my temperatures, etc, so I know when I have ovulated, and so whether or not I am pregnant each month. I would wait and see, but I'm betting stress is the problem! Sometimes we don't know how stressed we are until our bodies tell us.

Since you normally have periods between 28 and 35 days, at day 37, you're not as late you think.
And maybe this upcoming move is more stressful than you think it is. It may be that you're just suppressing the stress. Either way, if your HPT came back negative I wouldn't worry too much. Test again in another week, and it too comes back negative then just don't sweat it. Sometimes periods skip for no good reason.

Symptoms are very unreliable for determining pregnancy. Many symptoms that are associated with pregnancy, like sore breasts, bloating, and hunger are also pre-menstrual symptoms. Furthermore, most pregnancy symptoms do not start until 7 weeks of pregnancy or later. In fact, most women have no symptoms in early pregnancy.
The only symptom that is somewhat reliable is missing a period. Pregnancy is the most common reason for a woman who is sexually active to miss her period. However, it is not the only reason. Sometimes women are late or even miss a period, without any obvious cause. This is not a sign that something is wrong.
In addition, a small number of women will continue to have some bleeding on the day they expect their period, even though they are pregnant. It is usually different than a regular period (lighter flow, shorter duration), but many women interpret any bleeding as a period.

This has happened to me as well years ago. Different types of stress affect us all differently. It's probably that. Keep in mind that we go through a biological change about every 7 years give or take so quit stressin' and maybe make a doctor appointment if another month goes by. Good Luck to you!

A wise old gynaecologist who taught me as a student said 'Any women who is sexually active and misses a period, must be assumed pregnant until proven otherwise. '
However pregnancy tests are fortunately very reliable, even this early. You are also right to comment that stress can delay periods. My advice would be to repeat the test. If it remains negative see your GP for a chat.
