Where or How can I FIX External hard drives problem?

I have a Maxtor 80GB external hard drive. it wont power up is complety dead. did anyone has any ideas how can i fix this problem.

exturnal drives are the same as internal take the drive out of the case and connect it to a computer you dont care about and test to see if the drive is dead or just the incloser

erm....since its conected to the computer via usb, it should power up...if not, then it has a fault..
take it to a tech shop
