Either check your external sound buttons if you have any or go to Start > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control. And adjust the settings from here. You can also add the icon onto your taskbar by going into the Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices > Then click the checkbox for show icon in taskbar. Voila!

1. Start
2. Run
3. Type in sndvol32.exe
Another way is:
1. Start
2. All Programs
3. Accessories
4. Entertainment

Try going into CONTROL PANEL > Sounds and Audio Devices and see if you can change the settings for it.
